February 2010
I would like to give you an overview of the work covered in the German class.
Around Christmas time we sang a lot of German Christmas songs and talked about different traditions to celebrate Christmas. Students learned to speak and write Christmas-Vocabulary and they created their own Christmas card.
In December we talked about what we have to do and look out for when we want to cross a street. A police man came to visit us. We talked about traffic safety and practiced crossing the street safely.
We also continued to talk about German fairy tales. We read Rotkäppchen and compared it to the movie Hoodwinked. The students were very good in finding similarities and differences.
We started to learn a lot about animals and read different books about animals (Hase und Igel, Der kleine Bär und sein kleines Boot, Die Fiedelgrille und der Maulwurf). All students really liked the stories and enjoyed the different tasks of sequencing, playing and finding new endings. We created our own Bingo games to some of the books. The students had a lot of fun developing their own game and playing it with their peers in class.
To improve the children`s reading comprehension we have a lot of German books in class and the children can take a book, when they have finished a certain task in class.
